Walk, Breathe, Reconnect: A Soulful Journey for Women

Giants and fairy dust myths of Northern Ireland

  • Fairy Folk at Murlough Bay – Ireland has a deep-rooted belief in the Sidhe (fairy folk), supernatural beings often associated with secluded, mystical landscapes like Murlough Bay. Many locals believe fairies dwell in the land’s ancient sites, caves, and hills.

  • Rathlin Island’s Enchantment – Rathlin is steeped in history and myth. It’s said to be a place of ancient spirits and supernatural energy, and Robert the Bruce famously took refuge in a cave there, drawing inspiration from a persistent spider.

  • Tuatha Dé Danann & Dunseverick Castle – The Tuatha Dé Danann were a race of god-like beings in Irish mythology, often associated with magical knowledge and power. While Dunseverick Castle itself isn’t directly tied to them, many ancient sites in Ireland, especially those with ring forts and castle ruins, are believed to have connections to this mystical race.

  • Giant’s Causeway & Fionn mac Cumhaill – This is one of Ireland’s most famous myths! Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) was a legendary Irish giant who supposedly built the Causeway as a bridge to fight the Scottish giant Benandonner. When he realized Benandonner was bigger than him, Fionn’s wife disguised him as a baby, tricking Benandonner into thinking Fionn must be a massive giant and scaring him away.

  • Dunluce Castle’s Ghosts – Dunluce Castle is widely believed to be haunted, with tales of ghostly figures and eerie happenings. One famous story says that part of the castle’s kitchen collapsed into the sea, taking servants with it, and their spirits are said to linger.

  • Fairies & Giants in the Closing – The idea that "fairies dance in the mist and giants once roamed the land" is a poetic way of referencing Ireland’s rich mythological past. Many locations in the country have legends of both the Sidhe (fairies) and Fionn mac Cumhaill (giants).

What to expect as you Step Into the Magic and Uncover Ireland’s Ancient Mysteries

Your adventure starts in Ballycastle, a charming seaside town where you’ll settle in and take a deep breath of fresh coastal air. Spend some time exploring the cozy cafés, stroll along the shore, and enjoy a laid-back dinner before the real journey begins. In the evening, unwind with a gentle yoga session and guided meditation to set your intentions for the retreat.

The next morning, a transfer takes you to Murlough Bay, where the views stretch all the way to Scotland. This mystical place is said to be visited by the fairy folk, hidden among the cliffs and forests. Before setting out, start your day with sunrise yoga overlooking the sea. You’ll then follow a path along the Fair Head cliffs, feeling the Atlantic wind on your face before heading down to a peaceful beach walk back to Ballycastle. In the evening, a relaxing meditation session will help you reflect on the day’s journey.

A short ferry ride brings you to Rathlin Island, a wild and mystical place where seabirds rule the skies and legends whisper through the rolling hills. Some say the island is enchanted, home to ancient secrets and spirits of the sea. The West Lighthouse is a must-see, with its dramatic cliffs and thriving puffin colony. Take a bus up and hike back if you want to save some energy for an afternoon walk to the South Lighthouse. After returning to Ballycastle, an evening transfer takes you to Ballintoy, where you’ll enjoy restorative yoga before a peaceful night’s rest.

The walk from Ballintoy to Dunseverick Castle takes you along stunning cliffs and past White Park Beach, where the waves crash against the shore in a mesmerizing rhythm. You’ll wander through the tiny fishing hamlet of Portbraddan before reaching the dramatic ruins of Dunseverick Castle, standing proudly against the elements. This castle is steeped in legend, once part of the mythical kingdom of the Tuatha Dé Danann, a race of supernatural beings said to have ruled Ireland in ancient times. Start the morning with yoga on the beach and end the day with a mindful breathing exercise to unwind.

One of the highlights of the retreat is the walk from Dunseverick Castle to Bushmills, passing the world-famous Giant’s Causeway. According to legend, this stunning rock formation was built by the Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill as a bridge to Scotland. Some say if you listen closely, you can hear echoes of his footsteps in the wind. Before heading out, grounding meditation will help you fully immerse yourself in the energy of the land. From there, a scenic heritage railway path leads you to Bushmills, where you can celebrate your journey with a sip of whiskey from the world’s oldest distillery. End the day with yoga nidra for deep relaxation.

Another morning, another adventure! This time, a transfer takes you to Dunluce Castle, perched dramatically on a cliff edge. Said to be haunted by spirits from Ireland’s past, this ruined fortress holds centuries of mystery within its stone walls. Take your time exploring its hauntingly beautiful remains before heading through the bustling town of Portrush. The coastal path leads you past rolling dunes and world-famous golf courses before ending in Portstewart, where you can unwind by the sea. A sunset yoga session will help you reflect on your incredible journey.

As the retreat comes to a close, enjoy one last quiet walk along the shore in Portstewart before heading home. A final meditation session will help you carry the sense of peace and rejuvenation with you as you return to daily life. The crashing waves and wide-open skies will stay with you long after you leave, a reminder of the wild, untamed beauty of Ireland’s coast and the mystical legends woven into its landscape.
