This is what my Step-mother told me when I went to spend time in India with her and my father back in the early 80's. She warned me that they were all hippies, took drugs and did yoga!!!
Yvonne was a devout Anglo-Indian Christian,(of Indian and British descent) and like many believers at the time thought Yoga was straight from the devil himself! Of course, coming straight from Zimbabwe, and having spent just about every Sunday during the school term in church, I obeyed her and did my best to avoid all contact with "The Westerners". Well how things have changed, and I think that dear Yvonne would hopefully have a different viewpoint now. I am a Westerner and do yoga now, and love it!
For a long time I wrestled with my conscience about doing yoga. My church disapproved of its, and I felt guilty doing it, but sometimes you have to follow your gut. I have come full circle. I started practicing yoga on a regular basis in 2008. I was so stressed out and I found it calmed me down.(I did wrestle with my conscience not sure if I would be struck down dead for doing yoga! )I took all 3 of my daughters to practice with me. Dakota and I started our Yoga Teacher Training together in 2017. When she died in 2018 I finished it for us and the rest is history.
